As January and the New Year arrives (and a Happy New Year to all our fantastic supporters) we are going to have to stop saying “We launched the Protecting the Wild Equipment Fund this summer’ - what won’t change though is our commitment to supporting and empowering people to protect British wildlife. We use the aforementioned fund to provide equipment like body cams, trail cams, night vision kit, and video cameras to monitors and activists working on the front line.
And we are delighted to say that we’ve already made one donation this year and have three more requests lined up.
Regular Protect the Wild ‘substackers’ will recognise the logo of Hull Wildlife Protectors in the image above. They’re a group we’ve supported before - and if asked will definitely support again! ‘HWP’ work to protect wildlife in Hull and East Yorkshire by providing a rescue and transport service to reputable rehabilitators. They also monitor the notorious Holderness Hunt - the blog they wrote for us back in September ‘Holderness Hunt kills fox in front of monitors, police take 'no further action'‘ was a superb example of what hunts get up to when they think they can get away with it. It’s not easy reading, but we’re sure that supporters of both Protect the Wild and Hull Wildlife Protectors agree that it’s vital we get information like this into the public domain.
Back to the present day, and HWP emailed us (very politely!) to ask if we could help them with some equipment they’d bought. And what a list it was! Not only had they paid for everything themselves but - they told us - they had led 60 anti-hunting activists at a Boxing Day protest and had also driven hundreds of miles over the Christmas period monitoring the hunt!
As if we’d say no…
HWP sent us receipts for two Guardian Bodycams, we reimbursed the same day, and within a few minutes the following post (complete with this stunning fox - how good does that look!) was on their Facebook and Instagram page.
“Bringing the New Year in with New kit funded by the wonderful and ever supportive Protect the Wild !!
Thank you so much guys for your continued hard work and dedication to Wildife protection and for always being supportive of us, we could not work alongside better people.”
Right back at you, HWP!
It’s a privilege to be able to help people on the front line like Hull Wildlife Protectors, but we will never forget that we can only do so because of the paid subscriptions on Substack our supporters have generously taken out. We can’t thank you enough.
Hull Wildlife Protectors are on Facebook at facebook.com/HullWildlifeProtectors/ and can be contacted on 07376 309331
While all our content is free, any money we do receive from paid subscriptions is ringfenced and used to buy equipment to put ‘eyes in the field’. It’s a simple idea – but the best ideas usually are! If you’d like to know more we have explained it all in our post “What do we mean by “Empowering people to protect British wildlife“?
With your support we will be giving out many more pieces of equipment to groups over the coming months and years. And we will always keep you up to date with how your support is directly helping wildlife!
If you’re an individual or organization working in the field and would like to apply to our fund please read our T&Cs here first and use the online application form on the same page.
Help us support activists on the ground!
Our content is free but if you choose to take out a paid subscription you’ll be helping activists on the ground take direct action to protect wildlife. Every penny we receive tops up our Equipment Fund to support those in the field. We currently have an amazing 463 of you on paid subscriptions helping fund the above, can you help us reach our goal of 500?
Super group to support! Clearly working hard and deserve all we can give them! Proud to help you, even a little! Support for you is 100% Have a successful and safe 2024!
Another worthy cause benefiting from this, more eyes on these scumbags watching every move they make makes me proud to be a sponsor knowing that every penny is going to keep the sabs on the ground lets hope this is our wildlifes year when we can all put this evil were it belongs in the past they know that the public are onto their smokescreens now so roll on with the ban 👍👍
