Cub hunting is a stain on the UK and it MUST end
Every year up to 10,000 fox cubs are hunted to death by hunts in order to train hounds to kill before the main hunting season.
Cub hunting, also known as "autumn hunting" or "hound exercise," is a brutal and illegal practice that takes place during the summer months in the UK. It involves training young hounds to kill foxes by targeting their vulnerable cubs. The hunts usually occur from August to October, preceding the main fox hunting season. Unlike regular fox hunting, cubbing takes place early in the morning or late in the evening. Hunt staff members often wear tweed outfits resembling "ratcatcher" attire instead of the traditional red coats. And hunts will surround wooded areas or crop fields where fox cubs are most likely to be living before sending the hounds in and encircling the area on horseback to ensure any escaping animals cannot escape. The activity is a lot more static than fox hunting.
Cubbing is the dirty secret of the hunting world
Cub hunting represents a particularly vicious form of animal abuse, where innocent and defenseless fox cubs, barely days into life, become victims of terror and violence. An estimated 10,000 fox cubs suffer brutal deaths at the hands of hunts across the UK every year. It is a deeply shameful and sordid "tradition" that continues to persist without proper intervention. The fact that individuals find pleasure in eagerly anticipating the chance to kill again is truly unimaginable. Only those devoid of ethics and compassion would engage in such heartless behavior.
Drawing Attention to the Practice
One of the crucial steps to combat cub hunting is to ensure the public is aware of this heinous activity in the first place. To achieve this, we created a spoof sports show titled "The World's Worst Sport." Through this show, we aimed to draw attention to the practice of cub hunting and shed light on the dark reality of this inhumane "sport." By raising awareness and sparking conversations, we hope to rally support for legislative change and bring an end to this cruel tradition.
Campaigning for Legislative Change
Following the exposure of cub hunting through "The World's Worst Sport," our next step is to advocate for legislative change. The Hunting of Mammals Bill is a comprehensive solution we have developed after years of campaigning against hunting. This bill goes beyond mere updates to the Hunting Act 2004 and aims to address the loopholes and exemptions that allow hunts to continue their activities.
The Hunting of Mammals Bill: Arranged in twenty detailed and carefully-worded sections, the Hunting of Mammals Bill proposes significant measures to put an end to cub hunting and all forms of hunting of wild mammals in England and Wales. Some key provisions include:
Introducing a "reckless hunting" clause to make it a crime to intentionally or recklessly hunt a wild mammal with a dog.
Banning so-called "trail hunting" by making it a crime to hunt any mammal with a dog using any animal-based scent.
Holding landowners accountable if they knowingly assist hunts in committing hunting crimes on their property.
Increasing search and seizure powers for the police to confiscate vehicles and mobile phones from hunts in the field.
Holding relevant organizations, such as registered hunts, and their officers liable for crimes committed by hunts.
By supporting and pushing for the enactment of the Hunting of Mammals Bill, we strive to bring an end to the gruesome practice of cub hunting and protect the welfare of all wild mammals. Together, through public awareness and legislative action, we can put an end to this inhumane "sport" and ensure a safer, more compassionate environment for wildlife in the UK.
