Thanks for speaking up for our seagulls Kevin!

Beautiful, brilliant birds who are being demonised in their attempts to adapt to human pressure. I believe that every seaside town should have a ‘save our seagull campaign’ and have information boards along the seafront.

Councils, businesses and members of the public need to manage waste responsibly. I notice in Glasgow the food businesses leaving plastic bags of food waste outside their premises overnight which obviously attract the ‘winged street cleaners’ to access this food resulting in rubbish spilling out onto the streets. Clearly, it is not the seagulls who are at fault! The simple and sensible solution of course, is for councils and businesses to seek solutions from experts like Kevin, and to comply with responsible waste management regs, or to be served with food hygiene notices.

I was distressed to hear passengers on the train from Aberdeen discussing, and laughing about, a particularly cruel method of killing seagulls because they ‘‘steal’ peoples chips and attack pet dogs and babies! ‘ No care for the fact that they are on the red list, no understanding of how seagulls are being driven to starve and have lost their natural habitat, because of us We really do need to educate the public and local authorities, and sack the directors of NatureScot because, at the moment, NatureScot is not fit for purpose!

Could the BTO or RSPB set up information points in seaside towns to better educate the public?

Thanks Kevin, Thanks Rob.

Thankyou Kevin for this information, I was ignorant of this happening. I will be more observant around where I live. I hope you achieve your aims. Take care xxx
