The danger of putting the ban on fox trail hunting together with new animal welfare legislation is it has given pro hunt MPs a parliamentary platform again to debate hold up and put down amendments opposing and watering down the legislation including in the house of lords. It could mean delays for many months or years exactly as they did with the fox hunt ban 26 years ago. Fox Trail Hunting at present is just a case of common criminality and only simple amendments to the present law and fox hunting ban is needed to stop it. No political party could be seen to oppose it and it would be waved through parliament like it always has been in the past and without the need for further debate or scrutinising in the lords. The Countryside Alliance will now be throwing their vast resources, barristers, lawyers, money and every rotten and corrupt people holding power and influence in our society to oppose this part of the new legislation with a good chance the government may give some leeway allowing the criminality of fox trail hunting to slip through again. The government should not fall into this trap and think again.
I notice one hunt used the hounds being out of control as the reason for a fox being killed. This is wrong, if a person or animal is killed by an out of control dog, the dog owner is rightfully prosecuted. Surely this should also apply to the hunt. It does seem that there is a discrepancy in the law here or is it as people assume that there is one law for the entitled rich and a different one for the ordinary man.
Hunting must stop completely, as soon as possible. Imagine this... the loopholes are eventually closed but the police carry on as normal, not enforcing the law. Then we'll have another two decades of hunt crime, bullying and antisocial behaviour to put up with in rural areas, and the police will end up spending an absolute fortune in taxpayers' money in dribs and drabs as the UK's most scandalous crimewave carries on. The government, police and legal systems' response must be both swift and merciless.
At the bottom of the rungs of evil are humans who just enjoy killing for its own sake - and they enjoy inflicting pain on defenceless animals. There's a description that was used after WW2 - it's this - The Banality of Evil - it applies to this group of humans. And further up those rungs is apathy - those who simply do not care at all as long as their own creature comforts are met. At the top of the rungs are the corrupt - it was ever thus. But if enough of us rebel, it can be changed for once and for ever.
