Why do people hang on like grim death to archaic but cruel customs that might have made sense once when, for example, starvation threatened, but no longer do so? The continued stealing & killing of gannet chicks for the sake of machismo, 'tradition' & expensive gourmet meals is a sickening case in point.
There are so many other examples of humans justifying their inhumanity to sentient creatures here & abroad, one can only conclude that there is a fundamental flaw in the morality & conscience of a disturbing number of people worldwide.
But it's particularly disturbing here in Britain because we like to claim that we live in a civilised country.
