We Did It — 100,000 Voices for Badgers!
Thanks to you, our govt petition to end the badger cull has now surpassed 100,000 signatures — the threshold needed to trigger a debate in Parliament.
This is a massive moment in our fight to protect one of Britain’s most iconic wild animals. And it’s only happened because you signed, shared, and stood up for badgers. From all of us at Protect the Wild — thank you.
But the fight is far from over.
Why This Matters
In the run-up to the last general election, the Labour Party vowed to end what it called the “ineffective” badger cull. Yet since taking power, the cull has continued — and shockingly, the government says it could keep going until 2029.
Let’s be clear: that means hundreds of thousands more badgers could be killed, despite overwhelming evidence that this mass slaughter does little to stop the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB). More than 230,000 badgers have already been killed — many of them healthy — in a programme with no solid scientific justification.
This isn’t disease control. It’s wildlife scapegoating, plain and simple.
What Happens Next
Now that our petition has reached the 100,000 mark, it must be considered for a debate in Parliament. We’re urging the Petitions Committee to schedule this debate without delay — so that MPs can finally be held to account, and the public’s voice can be heard loud and clear.
We’ll be watching closely — and keeping up the pressure every step of the way.
No More Excuses. No More Empty Promises.
Time and time again, politicians have told us they’d end the cull. But when it comes down to it, they continue to turn their backs on science, compassion, and public opinion.
This petition proves what we already knew: the public has had enough. And so have we.
Together, we’re building a movement that won’t stop until the killing stops.
Thank you for being part of it.
