I'm really concerned we won't make it!
This is the last time I'll ask for your help on this :)
Hi everyone
This will be a short and straight-to-the-point email — because I know many of you are probably tired of hearing us talk about the Government petition to end the badger cull. Honestly, I’m exhausted too, waking up every morning to check the numbers and hoping for a breakthrough.
But the truth is, I’m starting to worry we might fall short.
We’ve got just over four weeks left, and we’re still 15,000 signatures away from the 100,000 needed to trigger a debate in Parliament. As I write this, we’re hovering just under 85,000.
DEADLINE: 28TH MAY
After five months of tireless campaigning, it would be devastating to come this far and not make it. Badgers deserve better. At the very least, they deserve a proper debate — and we are their voice.
Let’s give it one last big push. Please sign and share the petition today if you can.
The number of badgers killed under the senseless cull is now approaching a quarter of a million.
To help put this staggering figure into perspective, my colleague Curtis created a powerful graphic: if every dead badger were laid out head to tail, they’d stretch the entire distance from Nottingham to London.
Let that sink in.
If you’re reading this and, like me, feel deeply disturbed by what’s happening — and you haven’t yet signed the petition — please take just 30 seconds to add your name. It really does matter.
I truly believe we can reach the goal — but only if we give it everything we’ve got. So please, keep sharing the petition and spreading the word far and wide. Every signature counts! 😊
Already signed? Why not forward this email to a friend or family member who might be interested :)
Thank you as always for supporting Protect the Wild and for taking the time to stand up for British wildlife.
Rob

Rob/Protect the Wild, have you tried mentioning this petition to other badger friendly charities (such as the badger trust, the save me trust, Wild justice, *born free, *Avaaz etc) to try and help grow it? The reason why I ask is because 2 other petitions for animals on the government website ("End the use of cages and crates for all farmed animals" and "Ban driven grouse shooting") have both gotten over 100,000 signatures each and I know the "End the cages" petition was backed up by more than 1 charity (Four Paws, compassion in world farming and the RSPCA I believe).
Unfortunately, I can't help much more as all my family and I have already signed it using all the email addresses we have. I sincerely hope this petition gets to 100,000🤞.
*I mentioned these 2 because I know born free and Avaaz both have/had petitions to end the badger "cull" so I think they would be willing to help.
If you would like, I could try contacting the above charities (the badger trust, the save me trust, wild justice, born free and Avaaz) to kindly ask if they wanted to help it reach the 11,000 signatures needed to get it to 100,000? Although it may be a bit odd as I am not the petition's starter.
I’m concerned too….I also keep checking the count daily and feel so frustrated and a sense of urgency to do something. I try to think of what I can do to raise the count faster in time for the 28th May. As much as I try to think of way to help the count go up…I come up empty…feeling powerless. We just can’t let this fail…we’ve come this far…all of them signatures can’t be for nothing !!!
Maybe we organise some points around the country…maybe at RSPB reserves and at viewing points for Raptors…where we could have tablets or iPads on hand and ask the general public to sign there and then.
I used to volunteer at the Peregrine falcon viewing point in London near the Tate modern…it used to get very busy and I would talk to many members of the public about the falcons. I believe people would happily sign the petition at these sort of events. I’m not sure if that viewing point is still there but I know there are many more all around the country. I’d definitely make myself available if this could be organised some how. Also have PTW reached out to Chris Packham…to ask him to remind all of his followers to sign the petition and also Brian May…there must be many Queen fans that Brian could influence to sign the petition.
We cannot allow this to all be for nothing…we can’t let our badgers down…we can’t fail them…we’ve got to keep trying
