Let me be brutally honest.
The first few months of this year have been incredibly tough for us at Protect the Wild. Financially, it’s been the hardest period we’ve ever faced. As an organisation that runs entirely on small donations from supporters, growing year on year — especially in today’s world — is always going to be bloody difficult.
Despite that, over the past few years we’ve built something powerful. A committed team doing everything we can to protect British wildlife — through animations, journalism, demos, campaigning, lobbying, undercover investigations, and more. We’ve always managed to just about scrape through, keeping our impact high and our work relentless.
If you’ve recently joined us after watching our powerful ‘Ban Snares’ animation — welcome aboard! We’re so glad to have you with us. 🙂
But in recent weeks we’ve had to make a tough decision: to prioritise some work at the cost of others.
Right now, our Equipment Fund — which supports those on the ground, the sabs, monitors, wildlife defenders and undercover investigators — is being used solely to fund a ground-breaking undercover investigation happening as we speak. And while that work is essential, it means we currently can’t support those brave people out in the field confronting wildlife abusers head-on.
I want to be straight with you — because that’s always been our way.
In an ideal world, we’d have enough funding to run undercover operations year-round, and have a pot ready to equip every activist on the ground. But right now, we simply can’t do both. And that’s why I’m writing this.
Here’s what we need:
We launched Project Investigation to raise £2,500 a month — enough to fully fund our investigations without sacrificing our support for direct action on the ground.
And the good news? We’re nearly there.
We’re already 75% of the way to our target. That means 375 people have already stepped up and committed £5 a month. Now we just need the final 125 to get us over the line.
With that support, we could transform the scale of our investigations. No more pauses. No more compromises. Just consistent, hard-hitting, fearless work that exposes cruelty and forces change.
You’ve already seen what our covert work can do:
Our Beaufort Hunt and VWH Hunt investigations shattered the trail hunt myth.
Our badger cull footage aired on prime-time BBC and undermined the entire policy.
Our exposés on shooting estates and raptor persecution are crucial in the fight to bring down the bird shooting industry.
And what we’re working on right now could change everything.
But these operations require money, skill, and serious risks. We can’t do it without you.
So — will you be one of the final 125?
Will you back Project Investigation and donate half an hour’s wage a month to fuel this work?
Because the truth is, we’re doing everything legally possible to fight for British wildlife — and people like you are the reason we can keep going.
Let’s finish this — and finish it strong.
We hope you’ll stand with us.
