Operation dead air: the fight to save Europe’s songbirds, Protect the Wild joins the Committee Against Bird Slaughter and Chris Packham on the frontlines of conservation.
Migratory birds that travel the world, they belong to no one and everyone and no one has the right to rob us, the world, of the pleasure they can bring. Cyprus, Malta, Sardinia, Italy, France, and Lebanon take heed, for until this ecocide is taken seriously by Governments and law enforcement you are pariah’s of the world, costing us all, as we move towards, as already apparent, our very own silent spring.
You say "Travel consciously. Tourism can help. The more people visit Cyprus, the harder it is for poachers to hide their crimes". Would it not be better for a total boycott on Cyprus of tourism and buying their goods. The Cypriot authorities would be very concerned with loss of income. Maybe that would encourage them to jail these despicable scum bags.
While I totally agree with Roger Fox, (great name for a supporter of wild bird protection!) Roger, any boycott MUST be reported to the local and national authorities, i.e. "Our family will not be holidaying in ------, until bird killing is stamped out completely." Possibly adding "Like many countries there are some police forces who will turn a blind eye on such activities for monetary gain, or the personal friendship of the hunters, this must be stamped out, nobody is above the law."
It should become apparent to the tourist boards that the shameful practice is being widely spread in the countries of highest tourism and numbers will start to decline rapidly.
Lastly and my personal view is that should I ever win enough on the Lottery to become totally independent, I would travel to these places in disguise and show these vile creatures what a good quality sniper rifle can do to them. (But that's me so ssshh!)
It's just the same with Spain and it's hunters who torture and kill their 'treasured' dogs at the end of the hunting season. Thousands of Lurchers and Greyhounds (Galgos) are hanged, thrown out in the middle of nowhere and left to die. Many are poisoned and beaten to death.
British women who have dedicated their lives to saving, treating and rehoming Galgos are attacked and insulted by Spanish women who accuse the ladies of 'insulting the manhood' of their husbands!
Please support these brave and dedicated ladies by donating to Galgos del Sol to keep up their selfless work. Thank you all.
Absolutely disgusting ... I have been banging on for years about mist nets to anyone that mentions Cyprus ever since I visited 30 years ago and witnessed them first hand :(
So heartbreaking and devastating... 💔💔💔humans have such capacity for goodness and compassion; thank the heavens above for the brilliant tenacity and dedication of PTW, CABS and the many many thousands of on-the-ground activists around our beautiful world🌈🌏🐦🕊
How some humans easily resort to such barbarism and brutality against nature is utterly beyond me!😪😖😠
One of the greatest pleasures i have is quietly listening to some of these incredible little birds in my garden - they bring with them so much joy🐦🌈💕✨️🐦how anyone could cruelly end these beautiful birds lives (or any other living creatures, anywhere) I fail to comprehend! These are inhumane, totally unnecessary, immoral and wicked acts perpetuated AGAIN, as ever, by humans!!!
Thank you to everyone involved for bringing this all to our attention🌍💛🌏💕🌏
Let's get behind this campaign to protect these creatures from harm and put these hideous people behind bars!!👍👍👍💕💛💕💛💕
I REMEMBER SOME YEARS AGO, CHRIS PACKHAM AND A TV CREW WENT TO MALTA TO OBSERVE AND AND TRY TO STOP THE ENTRAPMENT AND KILLINGS OF THESE SMALL BIRDS, ONLY THEMSELVES TO BE ATTACKED BY THE HUNTERS OF THESE BIRDS. I DONT REMEMBER THE AUTHORTIES TAKING ANY ACTION THOU?

Hi, CABS has written their own article explaining why this is not the case.
