A few days ago, I joined Betty Badger and a group of dedicated badger protectors outside the London DEFRA office for another powerful protest. This time, we staged a die-in, with half a dozen of us dressed head to toe as badgers, circling the building in protest. It was a stark reminder to the new Labour Government that they have blood on their hands. Their insistence on continuing badger culling and honouring the licences granted by the previous government, which allow tens of thousands more badgers to be slaughtered, is nothing short of a disgrace.
Those in power are either not listening or are being highly selective about whom they choose to hear. For months, we have been presenting scientific evidence that completely debunks the effectiveness of the badger cull in controlling the spread of TB. Whether it’s the recent analysis of the RBCT (Randomised Badger Culling Trial), which revealed that the cull "was never going to work," the sham "consultation" conducted by the previous government, or the blatant hypocrisy of this new government—who stated in their manifesto that the badger cull was "ineffective," yet are continuing it anyway—the message is clear.
While there would be costs associated with breaking the badger cull contracts established under the previous government, these costs are negligible compared to other contracts that have already been scrapped, such as the Rwanda migrant deportation plan. Ironically, stopping the cull could result in significant long-term savings if alternative approaches were adopted, such as addressing the conditions on farms and improving existing biosecurity measures.
The fight to end the badger cull continues, and the pressure is definitely mounting. Thanks to Sir Brian May's upcoming documentary, set to air on BBC 2 this Friday (23rd) at 9 pm, the issue will be thrust into the public spotlight. I had the privilege of attending a private screening of the documentary with Sir Brian May a few days ago, and I can assure you, it will have a profound impact on the campaign to end badger culling. We're also pleased to share that Protect the Wild's shocking undercover footage from one of the facilities handling culled badgers is featured in the film. If you care about this issue or want to explore alternative solutions to the senseless slaughter of this iconic species, this documentary is a must-watch.

I used to have Badgers visit close to my House for food and eat with the Foxes, dust to darkness. Not now...what has happened to these families...Badger parents with 2 to 3 young. My land was a Badger Run for a hundred years before I bought this house. What now? Badgers, Foxes, even the Deer here are at risk from evil 'so called human beings'. What is this lust to kill all our wildlife...not even so many Rabbits now.....All this changeover the past few years. It's a living nightmare. STOP KILLING BADGERS❌ JUST TO SHUT UP THE FARMERS...WHO ONLY BREED COWS TO USE AND KILL THEM TOO. Totally disgusting. Please DEFRA and the NEW GOVERNMENT DEAL WITH THIS HELL YOU ARE ALLOWING TO HAPPEN. 🦡🦡🦡
