Straightforward answer, there should be NO LICENCING to kill ANY wildlife and crimes committed must be custodial for a minimum of one year.

We live in such an uncaring society, nothing must stand in the way of what the Human Being wants to do and when they want to do it, I so hope that the upcoming generation will value animals and the planet far more, Its on my wish list...

Nonsensical fines that do nothing to stop wildlife crimes.

£111 versus the stoppage of work in order to do things properly -or not to do them at all: I think many builders would take a chance and break the law in order to get the job done.

This idiot should have been fined far more than this paltry amount. It just shows that this builder and the court have a complete disregard of the protection laws covering these vulnerable bats. Alternatively this idiot should have been strung up by his dangly buts until he dropped to the ground! At least he'd still be alive which is more than can be said for the roosts he destroyed!

Weve got bats and would go to any lengths to protect these amazing little fuzzy friends £111 what a pathetic fine heavy fines need to be put in place to deter these bodge builders commiting these offences and the home owner should also be held acviuntable for allowing the work to carry on

I have squirrels sharing my loft . They've been there for at least 20 years and have done no damage at all . I love watching them scampering up and down and wouldn't dream of disturbing them- despite recommendations by various people .

Thats alot cheaper than having a bat survey, which he would know about. You cant put a price on the poor little creatures hes murdered. He cant just take the law into his own hands.

What a pathetic fine for destroying endangered bat habitat! Make it meaningful and a major deterrent to other numbskull developers! PS: there is no working link to donate to Protect the Wild.

Hi Larry, Thanks for thinking about donating to us. We have a page on our website at https://protectthewild.org.uk/donate/. Alternatively any paid subs on Substack are ringfenced and used to supply front line monitor groups with equipment like cameras, video recorders, drones etc. Thanks again.

When I first read the article I thought there must have been some zero's left off the fine amount. But NO.....this is an absolutely appalling fine and will not serve as a deterrent to any other homeowner or builder out there wanting to do the same thing.

Hi Mark. I had to triple check when I was writing the post too. Without stereotying anyone, that has to be pocket change for the average developer ...

WITH ALL THE BUILDING WORK GOING ON ACROSS THE COUNTRY(HOUSES) HABITAT AND WILDLIFE ARE BEING DESTROYED. POLITICIANS DO NOT CARE NEITHER DO THE PEOPLE WHO RUN COUNCILS. ALL ARE CORRUPT AND ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY

Wildlife was never protected until people fought for it to be, but is it protected, when any laws can be broken, and even so called protected areas can be destroyed legally?

They should have got a lot more, too many people have no idea how important wild life is as long as they get paid birds nests bats roosts any thing they will destroy well it’s about time these people realised that they will not get away with it

IS THAT ALL???? PATHETIC! BRING BACK THE NOOSE.......... FOR BOTH OF THEM!
