It has been known for many years that cattle give TB to badgers and unlikely vice versa. Badgers turn over cow pats to feast on worms etc, cattle are unlikely to eat grass at a latrine. Farmers and land owners need little excuse to kill if they can, it's their hobby after all! As for 'English Nature' it has always been just a group of land owners who want to be in control of land wherever it is in the country, it expands personal interests and does not allow the 'natural' to get in its way! I'm not a fan of bodies who proclaim to be conservationists. They seem to be made up of the very people who push our wildlife to the brink of existence then rush in to save it claiming 'conservation'! Not all of the groups are like that I know but I do wish we could leave Nature alone a bit and stop so much interference!

Slowly, but very surely, the truth behind this corrupt tory "government's " continued badger killing is beginning to emerge - so very sadly, this senseless slaughter has cost a QUARTER OR A MILLION of Brock's Clan their lives. As soon as the corrupt tory cabal fall at our next General Election we must demand a full independent public inquiry of corruption, collusion & incompetence within both Defra (aka Deathra) AND Natural England (aka UNnaturalEngerland) So heartening to see a Labour Party commitment to ending the abhorrent badger kill/cull. We must ALL ensure this happens asap once the tories fall - AND hold those responsible to account. Indeed, a complete BAN on all bird shooting bloodsports would be a fitting legacy to tory "govt" badger killing - such a ban, would, in turn, save hundreds of badgers & countless other wildlife...

When is a 'nature haven' not a 'nature haven'?

When it is run by incompetent fools and hypocrites who shouldn't be allowed to run the proverbial mollusc stall.

I'm not surprised at anything they will do to push a protected species to extinction.

PROFIT OVER DECENCY IS THERE CREED.

MEANWHILE 200.000 LIVES LOST.

SOUNDS LIKE A WAR, ALL ONE SIDED.

SOUND FAMILIAR.

THIS IS OUR UK HAPPENING ON OUR WATCH...

SHAMES ME TO THE CORE..

"A decade-long cull ???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The government’s cull policy of badgers ... since 2013, which it says has “led to a significant reduction in the disease” is, I'm afraid utter balderdash.

What's more, for heaven's sake, the so-called cull has been going on since 1975. If anyone has my book 'The Fate of the Badger' originally published in 1986 (2nd edition 2016), turn to Plate 16 where you will see a protest taking place in 1985, truly ten years into official badger slaughter. If you haven't got the book, let me know and I can let you have a copy dirt cheap!

I have written in total objection to this arbitrary badger culling before and I vehemently object to it today. Your rationale has not been adequately researched nor is it definitive. It is bad ‘science’ wherein the concluders already knew the result they wanted and skewed the results to fit that conclusion. We don’t buy it.

This is total genocide its a well known fact dairy farmers have outed the badger for decades, the scum in power are just suited badger baiters with a posh accent nothing more than scum its about time these poor animals were given the security they deserve and they were promised what next the humble squirrel passing on warts hey lets irradicate another species make some excuse so its open season for every dick with a riffle can slaughter a entire species coz thats all this governments about is bullying the defencless 🦡🦡🦡

The government should stop culling of badgers now, in-fact stop the culling of all of our wildlife. Animals have as much right to a full life as we do. So sick of certain humans deciding to kill animals as if they were God. All animals are God’s creatures and should be loved and respected. Where’s the compassion in this cruel world.

This barbarically abhorrent and completely uneccessary "cull" ("culling" being just a more political way of saying "mass killing" or "mass murder") needs to end now!!! I will vote labour if they will ban the uneccessary slaughter for good, but unfortunately, I have virtually no trust in politics anymore as how many parties have promised to do this, that and the other and then done completely the opposite of what they have promised when they get into power? All the poor badgers and cows are innocent! TB is virtually non existent in humans now, why, because there are efficient vaccines, testing and antibiotic cures that are used, the same things that can be used to treat and prevent the disease in cows effectively, leaving the badgers happily alone! No cow or badger deserves to be killed when there are cures, tests and vaccinations that can be used instead!!!

Disgusting! I believe I read a report a little while ago that the Badgers are not the culprits but some cows themselves. Anyway innoculation of cows and Badgers is the way to go not killing these lovely shy animals!

The humans are the culprits, not the poor cows or badgers.

How many badgers living in areas with no cattle are tested to see if they have TB?
