That is fantastic news!! England is now the only one (besides from Ireland, I believe) that is still allowing snares to be used in the UK!! As I have said before, the 2 "pledges" that Labour made in their "election manifesto" that have not yet been made into bills are a ban on trail hunting and a ban on snares!! All snares need to be completely banned everywhere right now 🤬🤬🤬!!
Well before it can be policed there has to be the legislation which is now in place. If snares are seen then it can now be reported. Small steps but they will grow.
Congratulations Scotland! Certainly more positive in their actions than England (and I am English). Particularly pleased as there are such large shooting estates there, owned by those who claim to love nature and know all about it!! I do wonder how it will be policed however??
Disgusting and barbaric things to do to sentient beings? I also wonder if all the people who comment eat meat? I bet most of them do. Do they know the cruelty that goes on in the farming industry?
Sadly the aristocratic country estates hold sway here. They have no respect for our native wild life and fauna. Their gamekeepers kill many of our endangered species of raptors to protect grouse moors and artificially reared game birds. Shocking that in Devon & Somerset deer hunting not banned. Likewise, trail hunting and cruel snares persist. This Labour Government has no interest and respect for our countryside and wildlife heritage. Hooray Henry’s continue to indulge in barbaric cruel blood sports - look at shooting on the Royal estates - great example of hypocrisy. Well done Prince William and King Charles !
Yes indeed; the ‘proof’ of this ‘pudding’ will be in the policing. Wildlife Protection Offices are so thinly spread across rural Scotland, the shooting estate owners have so much influence amongst the (largely) tenant farmers, local communities and the authorities and the gamekeepers are so wily that it might not change things very much. It will be presented - and largely perceived - in the countryside as yet more ‘Metropolitan meddling’ and will be used to foment a conservative (Conservative?) backlash against a fading SNP. And any enlightened local residents suspected of reporting the gamekeeper can expect extensive retribution.
I'm delighted though concerned as to how it can be enforced .. I guess the public need to be involved in reporting/policing the ban. More letters to both the Labour Party HQ and Downning Street from all of us are needed.
Update: After thinking on it and seeing no petition to ban snares on the official government petitions website, I decided to create one myself. The petition reads: "Ban ALL snares in England, including so called "humane" cable restraints.
Cats, dogs, badgers and many other animals, even humans, have been caught in snares as they are as indiscriminate as they are cruel and uneccessary. We are asking the government to ban the use of ALL snares in England completely.
Despite there being a pledge in Labour's election manifesto to ban snares, no such bill, so far, has yet been created to do that and many types of snares are currently still legal to use in England. Scotland, Wales and Guernsey have ALL now completely banned snares, proving that using snares is uneccessary. It is now time for England to follow."
(Please be aware though that if you do decide to kindly sign (thank you 💖), you will need to click on the confirmation email after signing, otherwise it won't count).
Thank you for the kind suggestion and for providing those 2 email addresses for me David 👍💖. I plan to as soon as my petition, hopefully🤞, is approved and goes live after being checked by the petitions committee team (it is currently now in the queue to be checked by them).
signed - but you should probably change the title if you can, it is just referred to as Cara Gilbert's petition, when you sign there is no mention of snares
Thank you so much Stephen ❤️💖!! That is true. After receiving 5 signatures and getting checked by the petitions committee team, the petition should then read roughly the same as how I worded it above when going live.

I comment, am vegan and do know about the farming industry cruelty having been born into and grown up in a rural farming community.
Come on England, do the same as Scotland and Wales and ban the use of all animal snares.
Fantastic news

Brilliant news. Hopefully Labour will now make good on their promise to ban this barbaric practice in England.
Hopefully- don’t hold your breath.
Thanks

Well done. Snares are disgusting and there is absolutely no excuse for them anywhere.
It's disgraceful that they are still legal in England.
Well done Scotland 👏🏻
it has been a long time coming, hopefully Labour will bring a ban in in England. These horrific contraptions need to go
Fantastic news!! Well done with your tireless effort
Another brick in the wall. A wall that will protect our animals. Well done
