Why! Because they, the police, are in with the barbaric sadists who murder foxes and their own hounds. They have no love for these wonderful animals!

I'd love to see an in-depth investigation into how many of the different police forces have indirect links to hunts, such as current or ex high ranking officers that ride out with them or sit on the boards.

Appalling lack of action from useless corrupt plods.

If only an MP with some balls would call for an investigation into every police 'service' in the UK, examining their records on enforcing the Hunting Act and other laws pertaining to road safety, animal welfare etc.

Where 'no action' has been taken against hunt hooligans and animal abusers as in this case, close attention needs to be paid to the Chief Vegetables' relationships with everyone in the hunts concerned and their associates such as MPs, PCCs, members of the House of Lords, magistrates, judges, lords of the manor, local/county toffs and anyone with any influence whatsoever over the police on committees quangos etc.

ANY evidence of nods and winks, turning a blind eye, instructing rank & file to ignore lawbreaking, collusion with colleagues, old boys' networking and club chat resulting in 'No Action Taken' against huntscum criminals should result in instant sacking and legal action, public shaming and maximum publicity.

Police are often referred to as 'the filth' and if corruption to protect overprivileged psychokillers with plummy accents is going on, they really are the filth and there should be hell to pay.

I would wonder if the world of 'secret handshakes' is at play too?

I don't doubt it. Police should be banned from joining the Freemasons or any other secret society. They're there to serve us ALL.

I couldn't agree more. And as an aside, I have a very dear young friend who has been a police officer for about 20 years - he is a thoroughly decent human being and does his job to the best of his ability. He says little about it but I definitely have the impression that he's demoralised by some events. So there are good officers but the bad ones do a lot of damage.

The police in some areas and many PCCs are clearly in the pocket of the hunts (as PTW pointed out - some PCCs are well connected with various hunts). ...Remember Cameron's comments about a certain African republic being corrupt ? He did not need to look so far....

Didnt expect anything different from this corrupt law system. The police seem to be a force of sex offenders, rapists etc. They wont give toss over a few dogs getting killed or the trauma the drivers suffers and the potential human lives that could be lost.

If motorists were to start ignoring hounds in the road and just run them down or to just blindly run into the hunters on horseback killing or maiming a horse or 2 (doesn't matter about the hunter they made the choice to dice with death on the highway) the police would be quick to arrest the motorists, why? because the motorist is a soft arrest and easier to prosecute than a QC or chief inspector going about his illegal hunting activities. It's time to bring in ptw's new bill and also make trail hunting illegal as well.

..... and we all know why the hounds in question were not following a trail!

Perhaps a daft idea but, what do motoring associations think of this? Would motor insurances be involved? Motorists should have a say, trying to avoid hounds or even worse causing death and injury is a traumatic ordeal to any innocent motorist. Perhaps when they are stuck in a jam for the sake of hounds, sabs/monitors could take a poll or petition on the problem to highlight it (although they may be too busy trying to save hounds)!

I guarantee that if I allowed 3 of my dogs to get loose on a motorway - or any other road - I would be prosecuted .. and quite rightly. The way these 'decision makers' work is shameful and reprehensible.

(I have just one dog and she is closely supervised whenever we are out of the house.)

Well funny you should say that but several months ago I had to call Northamptonshire police as two large dogs were running through the streets of Wellingborough. They were clearly the same breed and seemed very stressed. Wouldn't respond to friendly approach and may have been friendly or aggressive. Called 999 and was greeted by a patronising woman called handler who informed me that "we don't respond to dogs running around."

I had to repeat that they were unsupervised and reminded her that if someone was badly bitten or the dogs caused an accident on the road I would inform the press.

I got a very surly incident number as a response, and no doubt no call went out to officers.

I'm a dog lover right to my marrow - but after all the dreadful things that have happened with dogs behaving in this way and when children and/or vulnerable people being attacked .. honestly words fail!

Do you know what happened after this? Did the owner turn up?

Thank you for exposing this crime and your efforts to get something done. It must be so soul destroying wall when police wont take action. You are great to keep on trying to get justice.

I was part of a group of hunt saboteurs back in the eighties, we used to meet up at the old England in Montpellier Bristol. One of the hunts we sabbed was situated close to Wells in Somerset & towards the end of the day words got around that several hounds had been killed on a dual carriageway. On other occasions we heard of hounds being killed on motorways, train tracks, hounds running roughshot through householders gardens, graveyards etc & several pet cats & dogs being attacked & torn to pieces. We heard of an elderly lady whilst walking her elderly dog, being attacked 😳 That was forty years ago & it's still going on. Hunting will never be truely banned, as these hunts have connections to judges, political figures, royalty etc.
