Dogs love their owners and only do what they are told to, just to make them happy. It is always the owners who betray that trust, which always ends up bad for the dog. Dogs just need love and someone to give them that love back and never betray it. Dogs always desrve another chance. Bad owners deserve to be locked up.

I have time, space and energy for one possibly 2! I used to have 5 dogs GSD, collies, a Jack Russell and a good old mongrel, all rescues! Never had any problems. As I am older now, 2 would be my max to give them my full attention and affection. It's a plus they will be used to horses! Is there somewhere we can sign up?

Wish i was younger , i would take some on in a heartbeat. I had 6 springers spaniels at one time. Heartbreaking when i lost them. Hope new homes are found .They will adapt if they are shown love , kindness, food and a nice bed. Far better than a cold bleak outside house with no love.

WE HAVE HAD RESCUE CATS AND A DOG AND RABBITS. OUR DOG HAD BEEN BEATEN AND LEFT ABONDONED IN A FLAT AND WAS WORRIED IF HE HEARD LOUD VOICES, AND WOULD EAT THE CATS FOOD WHEN WE WENT OUT OF OUR PROPERTY. HE WAS A LOVELY DOG WHO LOVED TO PLAY WITH OTHER DOGS AND RUNNING IN AND OUT OF THE SEA. I HOPE WHO HAD ABUSED HIM GETS THE SAME TREATMENT THAT THEY HAD DONE TO OUR SAM A COLLIE CROSS. WHEN OUR PETS PASS WE STILL MISS THEM AND REMEMBER THE THINGS THEY GOT UP TOO.

Fantastic idea/campaign Protect the Wild 💡👏✊❤️💖💖!! It is absolutely abhorrently barbaric and aghastly deplorable how the sick hunts treat their poor hounds 😿💔🤬🤬🤬!! I must confess though that I was a little surprised to hear that Maggie and Negan live with cats as I have often heard rescues say, about certain dogs and dog breeds, especially ex hunters, lurchers, whippets, greyhounds and terriers (for what I thought was obvious reasons), "can't live with cats or other small animals due to having a "high prey drive" (their words, not mine)? I do believe that rescues have a "too unreasonably strict criteria" on this though. For example, my family's dog very, very sadly passed away a few weeks ago, bless her. She was a German Shepherd crossbreed but loved and mothered all our cats (a total of 11 in her lifetime), our 2 rabbits and all of us. When I looked up, out of curiosity, to see what dogs my nearby rescues had, out of about 50 dogs in total from my local RSPCA, Blue Cross, Dogs Trust, Margaret Green and Waggy Tails rescue, not 1 of them, out of ANY of those rescues, could apparently live with a cat. They ALL said either "can't live with cats" or "has to be the only animal in the home". We got our dog from the NAWT in Somerset (which has now sadly closed) as well as one of our cats from there too. They seem, to me, to be the only rescue organisation I know of that will take the time to get to know you and your circumstances and won't just give a point blank "can't live with cats, can't live near main roads, can't live with small animals etc" ultimatum on who their animals can live with. You can't tell me that EVERY SINGLE dog there out of 50 can't adapt well to living with a cat! I am with you all the way on this though Protect the Wild 👍✊❤️💖💖!!

I agree with you Cara. My son has been refused a dog because he lives in a ground floor flat. We also believe it is because due to a rare illness he lost nerves in his legs and when out he uses a motorised wheelchair (which for him should have 4 wheel drive)! Life was poor quality for him without a dog as he has always had them throughout his life. He now has the perfect companion, a collie cross rescued street dog from Romania. He paid all her bills for spay, vaccinations, passport and transport to UK. Poor little thing at first was of course very bewildered but he is brilliant with dogs. In no time she followed him closely, even across a room! She took longer to accept other people, giving a growl or bark, but now greets everyone with tail wagging! They are out together for hours on end, every single day. In traffic areas, she rides on his lap! They have become quite well known locally, lots of friendly dog loving people! They have probably saved each other in many ways, yet in this country, he was turned down! Not long after, they adopted a cat from the same rescue group and this little 'street pair' live happily side by side, no problems. I wonder how many other animals are missing out on good homes!

I completely agree with you Rosemary and thank you for sharing this with me ❤️! I am so sorry to hear that your son has lost the nerves in his legs but I think it is absolutely lovely and heartwarming that they have all rescued each other and live happily side by side like that now 💖. His story shows that a LOT more homes, situations and animals can live perfectly happy and well together than what many "rescues" would have you believe! I wish I could say that I was surprised that it was this country who turned him, a good, kind and responsible animal lover whom we need more of, down but I am afraid that it doesn't. I completely agree with and encourage rescuing and adopting animals but the way so many rescues are going about it and making the "criteria" far too difficult and unattainable for so many perfectly suitable people, I truly fear that it is going to put people off trying to adopt and instead buy from a breeder or private seller which is the last thing true rescues should do!! I also find it "strange" how it often seems that the very well known and big rescue organisations (such as the RSPCA, Blue Cross, Dogs Trust etc) seem to have the most "unreasonably strict criteria" yet smaller, less well known organisations (such as the NAWT and international rescues) are often more understanding, likely and willing to actually get to know the adopter's situation/s, listen to them and get their animals rehomed! As my mother often says "as long as they (the animals/s) are given proper love, care, nutritional food, water, shelter etc, that is all they need!" The "rescues" who have these "too unreasonably strict criteria" are pushing perfectly suitable, kind hearted and responsible adopters (along with their animal's chances at getting a proper home of love) away! I sent an email, just under a week ago, to the RSPCA questioning this (they were also the main charity claiming that there is a so called "rehoming crisis" at present yet my local RSPCA branch only has 3 dogs when I last looked...?) and am waiting to hear back from them to see what excuse they use. As you said Rosemary, I also wonder just how many other animals are missing out on good and perfectly suitable homes too.

I am sorry you so recently lost your family dog but have no doubt from your caring ways she had a wonderful life! It's always such a sad time, but their life spans are shorter than ours and it is inevitable that we go through the pain of losing them. I had a GSD X Lab many years ago. He was the most amazing dog, telepathic I think! He too tolerated my changing lifestyle of the time, babies, other dogs etc - even took him on honeymoon where the hotel owners fell in love with him (but were not allowed to have him!)

Thank you so much for your very kind words Rosemary ❤️💖. Where would we be without animals 🐶🐱🐰🐴❤️💖?! The love, care, patience and tolerance that they give us throughout their entire (but sadly far too short) lives is unconditional and special 💖. I know all your dogs had an amazing life too with you as their human ❤️💖.

I am sorry to say that the RSPCA are useless when it comes to helping the SABS in all areas. I no longer support them! I support the SABS and HSA instead. They are wonderful as are all the fox rescue people.

I completely understand and agree with you Susie Bowers! I don't support the RSPCA financially either (for many reasons) but when it comes to adopting animals, as my mother often says "regardless of where that animal has come from, nevertheless, you are still giving an animal who needs a home, a home".

I agree RSPCA are not really fit for purpose! They will turn up if there is a possibility of media coverage, but their policies are highly questionable in many aspects, especially putting wildlife to sleep as opposed to rescue and care!

“Hounds can’t be re-homed” is just another lie peddled by the hunting community and used by them as emotional blackmail to try and convince people that hunting shouldn’t be banned. Besides, how dare they pretend they care for their hounds when they all get shot when no longer deemed fit to hunt in the pack - shame on them !

it's the same as grey hounds ... the only reason they aren't rehomed is because they are never offered for rehoming.

They are magnificent dogs…I didn’t realise…I’ve never come across one in person.

They are beautiful animals and deserve a second chance as part of a loving human family.

If this can be an option for them…then bring it on …sooner rather than later

HOW LOVELY THESE DOGS HAVE A LOVING HOME .ALL MY ANIMALS ARE RESCUE ,OR STRAYS AND ARE MY LIFE THESE ANIMALS DESERVE A BETTER LIFE THAN WITH THE EVIL VILE HUNTS.

Expand full comment

THE HUNTS PEOPLE ARE COWARDS AND NO DIFFERENT TO THOSE THAT PUT A GUN TO SOMEONES HEAD, THREATENING TO SHOT THEM UNLESS THEY AGREE TO THEIR DEMANDS. I HOPE AND WISH MORE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WILL COME TO THE AID OF ALL ANIMALS WHO SUFFER BARBARIC CRUELTY AND ABUSE.

Saying these dogs can’t be rehomed is like saying a soldier can’t return to civilian life. Of course they will have scars and survival habits drilled into them, but all living beings respond to love and second chances after experiencing hell.

Hounds will make loyal, loving companions in the right homes. The huntsmen are soulless, heartless, corrupt and cruel, and their answer to everything is death, so they wouldn’t have a clue about an animal’s potential to rehabilitate.
