Why are successive governments so afraid of farmers? Because they will lose their vote? Well Labour, you will be losing a manure load of votes from all walks of life the way you are going! It's just the same old same old....

A weak, corrupt, ineffectual Labour government which clearly has no expertise or knowledge in any area of governence. Relying on vested interests to cobble together policies in every area of government. The most unpopular administration of my lifetime. A complete balls up!

When you look at the profiles of board members of government agencies e.g NatureScot and some wildlife/ animal charities (RSPCA?), and government ministers you find that individuals on these boards have been employed in Animal Agri, are landowners and animal ag farmers, and engage in,or benefit from, bloodsports. They have a vested interest in , and are steeped in perpetuating wildlife persecution. Protecting nature is not their priority but persecuting wildlife is. In addition, the amount of taxpayers money doled out to animal ag including the badger cull it is eye watering. We should instead be investing in plant based solutions/a plant based food system. Animal Ag is so unsustainable, so polluting and so inefficient ( and the magnitude of animal suffering is off the scale) that the Gov cannot claim that it is tackling the climate and nature emergency. The lobbying power of animal Agri together with the vested interests of board members and ministers means protecting wildlife and nature is not happening. It’s like the fossil fuel industry and the water industry where the priority is profits and keeping shareholders happy. For the badgers and BvTB , the Gov has chosen to ignore the science, the veterinary profession with vested interests in Animal Ag have chosen to mislead, and the Gov has now grown the ‘pest’ control industry into a badger killing machine. The ‘pest’ control industry is a force to be reckoned with and is part of the bloodsports industry.

Sadly, this government is corrupt.

Incredibly weak Conservative puppets! Rare for me but I am so angry I cannot write a reasoned comment of my own!

Is there any possibility of taking the so-called Labour government to court? Surely money could be raised from the public for this.

IT WOULD MEAN MORE TAXPAYERS MONEY WASTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS, AND YOU WILL NEVER WIN, THEY HAVE TOO MUCH POWER IN TERMS OF MPS IN PARLIAMENT. LOBBY YOUR LOCAL MP AND NEWSPAPERS.

I'm sure you are right, but it would bring the subject into the public domain and after all, it is they who object to this disgusting so called sport. More bad publicity for the government.

ALWAYS THE SAME, GOVERNMENTS CONTROLLED BY THE ESTABLISMENT HELL BENT ON BLOOD LUST. HOW MANY CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFRA ARE PRO HUNT? LABOUR HAS LOST SUPPORT BY TAX ON FARMERS WHO HAVE TO SELL LAND TO PROPERTY DEVELOPERS. ALL POLITICIANS ARE THE SAME PUPPETS ON A STRING.

Expand full comment

They don't have to sell their land to property developers David, that's just an empty threat! Dividing their land for some young tenant farmers (with a caveat that hunting must not be obstructed) would bring them an income to cover their inheritance tax and they would still own the land to kick their tenants off later. Remember it is only those owning over a million value of land that are taxed anyway so, the biggest landowners who can afford some space to let. It's just another 'ah poor me' farmer excuse! No time for them whatsoever, and I'm a born country girl!

I HAVE READ THIS, AND WITH LABOUR WANTING TO BUILD OVER EVERYTHING, WE ARE NOW LOOKING AT THE DESTRUCTION OF WILDLIFE AND THEIR HABITATS, AND MORE POLLUTION WITH MORE ROADS TO BE BUILT. AS WE ALREADY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH POTHOLES, THE ISSUE WILL GET WORSE. IN GERMANY THEY HAVE BETTER ROADS AS THEY DID DOWN DEEPER THEN WHAT THE UK DOES. ALSO WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WE HAVE IN THE UK, PLUS THE UK HAS THE LOWEST AMOUNT OF FOREST. DID YOU SEE THE CHANNEL 4 PROGRAMME, WITH SANDI TOKSVIG, ABOUT HER AND HER WIFE PURCHASED A FOREST, AND WHAT PEOPLE DID TO IT, 4X4S AND OFF ROAD BIKES DESTROYING THE LAND.

Too many times, the absolutely wrong "people" "buy" these beautiful forests and destroy them 😿💔🤬🤬🤬!! For reference, the UK is predicted to have a higher population than Australia by the end of this century and just recently, the UK's population has even overtook France!! How big is Australia and France compared to the size of the UK?!! Apparently, according to this article here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jan/28/uk-population-exceeds-that-of-france-for-first-time-on-record, the number of births and deaths in the UK are almost identical to each other, it is uncontrolled Immigration that is largely the cause for the UK population currently surging!!

Spot on Cara1 100% agree with you!

ON THE SHOW SANDI TOSVIG STATED THAT SHE WANTED TO SAVE AND PROTECT FORESTS AND ITS WILD LIFE, BY BRINGING IN EXPERTS AND THE LOCAL PEOPLE TO HELP CLEAR THE DEBRIS , BUILD A POND AND ALLOW OTHER PLANTS TO GROW.

I do feel ashamed for the "HUMAN RACE", when this "Planet Earth" "IMPLODES", oh, yes it will, one day, I hope all natures creatures, some how, survive, the "HUMAN RACE", "mostly" do not deserve to survive, just look at our "AMAZING" "BEAUTIFUL" Planet Earth, then look at the "WORST" (not all) species on the planet, "THE HUMAN RACE", all we seem to do is invade kill/murder our own "species" on our "SHARED" Planet, then for "SPORT" "FUN" we (MOST) go out "HUNTING and KILLING" "NATURES" most "AMAZING" "BEAUTIFUL" "ANIMALS/WILDLIFE", for "F*** SAKE" "WHAT FOR", what is the "F******" POINT", I am not a people person, I prefer being with my dog, but being "FRIENDLY" with nice "FRIENDLY" people, the rest I keep away. Another let down by another government, the best thing we could do is vote 🗳 for no party's as politicians leaders are full of lies and deceit!!!😎🦊🦊🦊🦊🇬🇧🧡

100% agree Christopher. We are all grown ups, so we shouldn’t be shocked when politicians lie. It’s all so predictable. They are all out to line their own pockets at the expense of all else, wildlife, the planet etc. It’s exhausting, what choice do we have but to hope the next government will be any different to the last? They never will be!

Thank you for letting us know Rosemary 👍! I have read it. If you would like to know what I personally think, it is this: We will see. It would be fantastic if this does happen and 9/10% of land will be properly safeguarded for wildlife (which is better than virtually nothing currently as long as absolutely NO hunting, shooting and/or culling is allowed under any circumstances) but considering what Labour's 'record' of what they have and haven't done so far, especially on breaking their election manifesto "promise" to "end the badger cull", I take everything Labour says at the moment with a mere "pinch of salt". 1 thing that does deeply worry me regarding the environment currently though, is Labour's "plan" to build 1.5 million 'homes', claiming they will use 'grey belt land' (apparently "downgraded" green belt land) and especially starmer virtually saying he will make building houses a priority over environmental "protections"!!

Not sure you noticed Cara but I put up this link without a comment of my own! Looks like Liebour are trying to 'sweet talk' us and the farmers as well! Obviously more hot air and empty words, plus, they would not check on the farms and farmers will do as they wish regardless, as always!
