The Scottish government is asking for views on whether the use of snares should be "banned as part of new plans to protect vulnerable wildlife" and whether inspectors from the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) "should be given extra legislative powers to investigate wildlife crime".
Done. Snares are archaic outdated barbaric Cruelty and MUST be banned NOW 🤬, this is the 21st century for God's sake, and these indiscriminate traps must be stamped out. The SSPCA should have powers to search and seize these vile traps.
I'm surprised that the Scottish government needs to ask about such a barbaric practice! Snares are such a deliberate act of cruelty that can reach far and wide 'snaring' anything that could unfortunately come across one. I personally had a cat quite a few years ago that got caught in one... she eventually came home skin and bones without one foot...she'd eventually gnawed through what kept her captive! Sub-human is the only word I can find to describe anybody that sets them in the countryside and indeed any one who has knowledge of them being on their land 😿
Hi Hazel. Very sorry indeed to hear about your cat - awful. the Scottish government are slightly behind the Welsh government, but a long, long way ahead of Westminster. I attended a 'debate' in the House of Commons on snaring and was amazed at the lack of critical thinking and the parroting of press-releases from the shooting industry that some of the MPs were using for their 'arguments'. The piece I wrote on it is here if you're interested: https://protectthewild.substack.com/p/banning-snares-a-parliamentary-debate-in-name-only

Anyone, government or road sweeper, who doesn't see snares as the disgusting piece of garbage they are need treatment.
