Unfortunately, even in British society very small number of voters care about the animal rights: wild animals, farm animals, pets - all need protection. Why do we still allow cruel religious rituals like Kosher and halal?

I agree but it’s the terrible indoctrination of religion; in the beginning the ‘mantra’ was to keep them ignorant and afraid and you have control - unfortunately it has stuck.

This will help my choice definitely. It would NEVER be Tory anyay. I needed more informatikn on which parties would support animals, as i havent heard anything from any of them. Thank you, protect the wild, but sadly no party goes as far as i would like. Ban ALL hunting, snares, shooting, burning moors, "trail hunting" with all the loopholes, zutomatic jail for ANYONE AND EVERYONE defying these laws. Make money not count any more, too many deep accepting pockets in all the wront places, i think. No excuses, no let-offs. I would have the bloody lot as guys on the bonfire. Think i should stand???

Sorry, forgot to mention banning factory farming, "frankenchickens " animal testing. COMPLETELY. Any animal cruelty, murder, to be jumped on seriously, not slapped wrist. Im sure i will think of a hundred more, but you get i love animals far more than a lot of "humans." They have more right to be than we have, they could never be capable of acting as 2 legs do.

This reply received to an e mail I sent to my sitting Lib Dem MP, which gives an indication of how the party views hunting:

Thank you for writing to me regarding hunting, I would like to take this opportunity to address your concerns.

The Liberal Democrats condemn anyone acting to get around the hunting ban.

We were pleased to see licenses for trail hunting suspended by Forestry England thanks to people like you bringing this smokescreen for fox hunting to the attention of authorities. when it seems that actual fox hunting is taking place.

The Liberal Democrats have a track record of animal rights advocacy and strongly resisted Conservative attempts to relax the fox hunting ban when in Coalition Government.

We support strengthening the ban on hunting with dogs to ensure that fox hunting isn't continuing despite the ban.

I hope that I have addressed your concerns and if there is anything else I can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

I live in what is a Labour safe seat ,

I am voting for the only party that I trust on wildlife and that’s the Greens, I have emailed my Labour candidate for over a year now on wildlife/ animal welfare and I have yet to get a reply, it’s a party that betrayed their animal welfare pledge the minute it got into power , and seeing I have a candidate who cares not to reply to my emails concerning wildlife, i have literally no trust in them whatsoever , if you are fortunate to have a Labour candidate who is vocal for the animals then , one would hope that they would make sure any promises made that the party would keep them,

I am not excited about this election because the three main parties offer nothing for animal-kind or human kind , FPTP makes it so much harder for smaller parties or independents to get in , I am hopeful that the Greens gain more MPs , the AWP are standing, I asked why they don’t join with the Greens, they would make a real difference for our animals, but they were rather hostile to the idea , in Europe AWP do get seats in parliament but it’s not going to happen here the way our system works, for the sake of the animals I wish they would just put aside any grievances and work together, at least for this election

Thank you so much for this most valuable information, you have helped me to understand the promises of the various political manifestos without having to trawl through them myself and probably getting confused for my efforts anyway.

Let me assure you I have absolutely no intention of voting Conservative but I had been wavering on voting Green, only because in my area they have no chance of getting a seat. But with the information you have provided I have decided to definitely vote Green, if only to show the incoming government just exactly how so many of us, who are caring and intelligent people, want to see our beautiful world thrive during and after our lives, rather than seeing the lobbyists successful in supporting harmful practices and ensuring corporate and ‘the privileged’ bank accounts to bulge whilst depleting our wildlife and nature in the process by allowing harmful farming and blood sports.

Thank you again, you are a wonderful organisation - with our joint efforts may our beautiful country thrive.

I like all of Farage's ideas but could never ever vote for him because when he was leader of UKip ,, he said if he got in, he would leave it up to each county to decided on the hunting ban.

Susan, was there a predictive text issue here? Alluha Akbar simply means “god is great” and is a very common term used by all Muslims. Why shouldn’t a Muslim be a Green Party candidate?

Expand full comment

Because you do not have any Vegetarian or vegan Muslims. Before you start a keyboard war, I'm not saying only non meat eating people should be Green candidates or voters but I am saying in both Muslim and Jewish religions animals are "slaughtered in most horrendous way to remain " pure" hence Halal and Kosher. My friends partner is Muslim and I have spoken with him about this.

All slaughtering of animals is abhorrent as any pictures and footage from abattoir would show but for non muslim/ Jewish meat a stun gun is used first. I am vegan so eat no meat.

Hi Katherine, I don’t disagree one bit with you comments about the methods used to slaughter animals - but the reason for my original response to Susan’s post was her derogatory and racist reference to Muslims generally. As you can see either Susan or the site mediator has removed her post because it was offensive. Best wishes
