We need to come up with a different term. 'the bird shooting industry' does not begin to accurately describe this utterly vile practice. Killing our already severely depleted wildlife to temporarily protect birds that will be shot for 'fun' is a disgrace
Hi Stephen. That's a really interesting comment. I don't know your experiences of course, but I remember back when I first started using the term 'industry' I was almost mocked online - now it's pretty much accepted that the rearing of birds to shoot is 'industrial', which is a huge step forward in public consciousness. As a life long birder, it's been extremely depressing to see how even really dedicated and passionate birders seem able to separate pheasants, grouse, ducks, geese, pigeons etc from the rest of the birds all around us. That's why I and Protect the Wild stress 'bird shooting' so often - I still think it's necessary as I believe the general public haven't made that connection yet. As I see it, the term 'the bird shooting industry' will still come as a surprise for many people, but on here of course, perhaps many of the people reading these posts are already looking for something stronger? The challenge will be to find a term that satisfies one group without alienating the other - especially as it's the latter that will be the larger of the two and will still need to be persuaded of our cause. Hmm, something to think about indeed - thanks :)
Charlie, it is an industry, but I find the term somehow 'sanitizes' it a little - perhaps something with more impact like the 'bird killing for sport industry', I am not sure , but would prefer to find a term with more negative connotations, that is what it deserves
Gamekeepers (along with livestock farmers) are a major reason why Britain is rated one of the worst countries in Europe for biodiversity. This fact is overlooked so often.
And the media especially Countryfile, Radio 4/5, give credence to ‘gamekeepers’ (murdering scum) and undeserved respect by interviewing them as if they were legitimate.
What a disgrace, pathetic impotent sub humans arming themselves and taking out some of the most beautiful of OUR wildlife. These birds belong to the nation not to a minority with no compassion and not an ounce of decency. The sooner these vile big land owners die off the better, perhaps their offspring will prove to be more enlightened their parents , although I’m not holding my breath.
Why can't shotgun ammunition be forensically tagged by law? They could still pick up the carcase and dispose of it, but the risks of shooting raptors would be much higher.
Hidden cameras should help track these wildlife murderers...lots of them. They are a breed ignoramus humans who narcissistic and we have to protect our wildlife from these abnormal people.
While children are brought up to see killing as fun there will always be people who enjoy killing. To prove they can kill more than someone else, to fit in with that crowd of people. But the schools these children attend would never teach them to respect life, the parents would not allow it.
when will we stop breeding thoudands of birds to be looked after by murders of native wildlife only to be shot by gun wielding idiots with nothing better to do.
BIRDS ARE SHOT/ POISIONED FROM SHOOTING ESTATES WHICH ARE PRIVATE LAND AND DO WHAT THEY LIKE. THE ESTABLISHMENT DO WHAT THEY LIKE KNOWING THEY WILL GET AWAY WITH MURDER AND THEIR STAFF IF CAUGHT TAKE THE BLAME

How about The Wildlife Slaughter industry - for all types of hunting?

Personally, I'm not sure how to say what so many of us want to say!!!
