I am not sure I have time for YouGov 'surveys' as if they are truly 'random' they are speaking to quite possibly many who are not 'educated' on the true facts of which they are being asked to judge. I believe this to be the case in this survey. Many are not qualified to make decisions based on what they know, it is more what they 'imagine' to be the case when in fact they have no idea but easily give opinions based on 'indoctrination' such as 'trusting farmers to know all in the countryside'!
All campaigns are about getting their word to those who are not engaged in the fight, in this case, wildlife crimes. The general public have views and they need to be made aware of exactly what’s going on under their noses.
For those who find these vile activities acceptable…… SHAMEFUL!!!!! If they would do these horrific things to their children then they shouldn’t DO IT TO ANY LIVING CREATURE!!!!
EXACTLY, in reality there are a small(ish) percentage of humans who take great joy in killing animals, there are also only a small (ish) percentage of humans who try to help and protect them. The vast majority don’t know or care. It’s about converting the majority to at least understanding or being made aware, and getting those people on board with us. We than have a better chance of irradiating the murdering individuals or at the very least keeping them in check, preferably in prison for breaking the law and taking innocent lives.
I, as a "RIGHT WING" brit, cannot see any reason, for the "KILLING" of any "WILDLIFE", even rats in the countryside, "ALL" animals are "NATURES CREATION", I am sure they are not on our "PLANET", to be killed, as is/was the "HUMAN RACE", but yes, the "HUMAN RACE",kills millions of our species, the human brain is "WARPED" in that way, wild animals "GENERALLY" only kill other animals for food, "COWARDLY HUNTERS" of earths wildlife kill for"BLOODLUST" "FUN" (???) "SPORT" (???) namely "BLOODSPORT", they have no "HEART" no "SOUL" no "COMPASSION" for "NATURES" living "WILDLIFE", they should be "NAMED and SHAMED", as "PROTECT THE WILD" and "SABS MONITORS" do, the best they can. "ANIMAL/WILDLIFE LOVER"
I agree totally James. My children and I saved for years to buy a very small plot of land with stables where we have rescued horses. I do not ever use any form of control on any form of wildlife. I remove food bowls and keep the horse food at home so it does not get contaminated. I have so many forms of wildlife visit and treasure them all. We see very few rats but I have seen some taken by birds of prey there, buzzards and kestrels, plus we have a resident fox! Recently, for the first time in years, I watched a stoat running through the paddocks at night and a very clever adder avoiding the sight of a buzzard by keeping close to the fence line across the field. I know how lucky I am to see this, they are all welcome friends who give me no trouble at all, I let Nature 'do her thing', and it works!
Hi, Rosemary, you and your family have got nature just right, I mean, what is the point of killing these "amazing" creatures, when we humans can watch with "amazement" their antics, I live in a detached bungalow in NORFOLK, with mostly farmland around me and have seen nearly all the wildlife, you mentioned and have many birds and two (sometimes three) resident "bats" in a tree, it's a joy, you and your family, must be happy with your life, I am happy for you, James.
That's really kind of you James, and we are of like mind I can tell! It's just a postage stamp size piece of land, not wealthy, no way to profit from it, and since family all grew up and left home its just me and the animals, yes I love it! Your place sounds lovely too, being surrounded by so much. Sad for the many people in the world that don't get to experience the amazing feeling of quietly sharing the world with animals, but in a world over populated with humans how could it ever be possible?? Also, I enjoy your posts! So like minded as I guess we all are on PTW!
Yes it's a shame we can't get more people, across the u k to be like minded, so we can stop the "slaughter" of our "precious wildlife, I hope it will happen one day "Rosemary" Jim
Hunts have repeatedly said they want to keep the current ban just as it is, claiming of course they are not hunting 'for sport', therefore the public would, according to this survey, be pacified! It means keeping all their prized loopholes in place and wildlife would not gain the protection desperately needed! I am also not happy that 'gender' differences are recorded. Tough men and sentimental women is suggested by this! I really object to that image! It should not make any difference at all! Years ago, when VCRs were the thing, I recorded a David Attenborough documentary which I believe was called 'The Ecology of a Bramble Bush'. It looked at how brambles were naturally kept in check by rabbits and deer feeding on them. It also showed the farmers failing to be able to manage the brambles following that very evil myxomatosis wipe out! Today, heavy farming machinery destroys this natural resource for all forms of wildlife in terms of food and shelter leaving the land open to erosion and overplanting for 'human food'. We used to have a healthy rabbit population (beautiful to watch) but almost a rare sight here now. Man is so cruel towards them, they should be on the endangered list!
I couldn't agree with you more Rosemary and bless you 👍❤️💖! I grew up in the countryside where I used to love going for walks and seeing wild rabbits (one even ran right up up to my father, our family dog and I on 1 occasion!), deers and even the large dragonflies! Sadly though, my family and I had to move because a derelict factory nearby was going to be made into a massive block of flats that we all knew would destroy the surrounding peaceful countryside and put too much strain on the local services (e.g. doctors, dentists etc). I believe many people complained for the same reasons but as usual, the council, thinking only of greed and human overpopulation, decided to go ahead and grant it regardless. To be honest Rosemary, I know you don't have a lot of land, but I think you are very lucky (James Wood too) to be able to live in the countryside and to be able to have wildlife and horses (take it from someone living in the city next to a main road with polluting and murderous traffic (there have very, very sadly been at least 5 deaths on the road outside, 3 of whom being family members of mine) speeding over 90 mph every night). If my family and I had the money, we would love what I had growing up again but as you correctly said Rosemary, I fear that human overpopulation (the UK's population is projected to increase, not decrease) will make that harder and harder for everyone.
My heart goes out to you Cara and I have the greatest admiration for those fighting for animals in all ways yet lacking the therapeutic contact with them. It doesn't seem fair sometimes. I will have to make a New Year's resolution to get my Substack started to share my encounters with more people! Sometimes I feel guilty having so much to say on here! It may sound idyllic where I am, and yet just today I am so freezing cold it's hurting! I am extremely sorry you have suffered so much personal tragedy where you live. It is heart-breaking, I am so sorry.
Thank you so much for the extremely kind words Rosemary ❤️💖. I really do appreciate it 💖. I am sorry to hear about how cold it is for you ❤️. Please don't feel guilty on how much you kindly share Rosemary. I am very glad that you are on here (PTW substack) and that there are people like you living in the countryside who actually do care for animals and wildlife and not those barbaric and heartless murderers we hear of sadly so many times on PTW. To be honest, I often worry on feeling like I comment too much on here myself with how many posts I do comment on (apart from the ones I just can't read. Such as the latest 1 and the one before this about those 2 poor souls who were horrendously murdered 😿💔🤬🤬🤬🦊❤️💖💖). If you do choose to start your substack in the new year, I look forward to reading about your encounters ❤️! Please try and stay as warm as you can 💖.
I am glad that the, I believe, majority of "Brits" are against hunting. I am thoroughly and very strongly against ALL and ANY hunting, shooting and/or "culling' of ANY and ALL animals. There is ALWAYS another better and more ethical way to "dealing with" ANY animal's overpopulation, invasive history (funny how THE MOST overpopulated and invasive species on Earth isn't mentioned here in being hunted and "culled" to control their numbers: humans, isn't it??!!), *so called "pest" nature, for "food" (a large variety of healthy fruits and vegetables, vegan/vegetarian meat and fish substitutes and legumes, lab grown/cultured/"clean" meat and fish provide plenty of alternatives to murdering others for "food" for all species: humans, cats, dogs, ferrets, animals living in ethical/accredited zoos, sanctuaries and wildlife rehab centres) etc. *There is a term for viewing beautiful and adorable foxes, pigeons and rabbits as so called "vermin" and "pests" but viewing Chimpanzees, Lions and tigers as special, when in reality, ALL of these animals are special, it is called "Speciesm". I wonder if those "people" who view foxes, pigeons and rabbits as so called "vermin" and "pests" have EVER seen the following films/series: "Watership Down" (the Canadian animated series, NOT the English film), the Disney film "The Fox and the Hound" and the film "Valiant" about a messenger pigeon who saved thousands of lives in the war...??!!
In one way these stats are such good news - for the first few seconds, before I could see the loopholes. How it can be skewed to suite the hunts. Are they actually going to be caught and punished? What is it with these vile men that have something so against foxes etc that they have to not only kill them period, but also in the most sadistical ways possible. Trying to make up for their impotence.
Thank you for such a thorough and detailed breakdown of the survey. The farmers and hunters will try to find a way to exploit these stats in much the same way they exploit the current loophole. But the figures speak for themselves, people are categorically against hunting.

All very good points very well made.

Don't know if you picked up the story of the bison massacre. 6 million I think it said , down to 456 after man nearly wiped them out
And we are civilised?????????

We need to protect what little is left of nature by every means ,
