You've helped South Norfolk Hunt Saboteurs stay on the road
Equipment Fund grant towards kit and an MOT
Look back over recent articles about our Equipment Fund grants, and we have helped groups from Durham to Dorset monitor or sab some of the most notorious hunts in England - including the Thurlow, Blackmore & Sparkford Vale, United Pack, Cheshire Hunt, and the Essex and Suffolk.
Now we are proud to report that we have added Norfolk to that growing regional list!
Wherever sabs and monitors are, the intentions are the same: stop hunts harming wildlife. Trying to sab hunts over the wide, flat expanses of East Anglia brings different challenges to following hounds up and down the hills of Shropshire for example, but the equipment needs are pretty much universal and boil down to having a vehicle (and we all know how costly they are to keep on the road), being able to communicate (we have sent piles of radios out this year), being able to protect yourself (bodycams are essential) and being able to record wildlife crimes (camcorders can be costly, but worth every penny if they document illegal hunting and get a hunt in court).
While Norfolk used to be renowned as hare hunting country, these days the hunts are mainly chasing foxes. South Norfolk Hunt Sabs are out all the time, working hard to get between the hunts and the wildlife. The sabs asked if we could chip in to help patch up their transport and if we could help with some kit. Of course…and by the way, how beautiful is the foxhound in the image below that the sabs sent us? It‘s true, foxhounds really do love sabs!
Protect the Wild supporters' donations in (direct) action!
Members and supporters of South Norfolk Hunt Saboteurs would like to extend a huge thank you for your generous donations to Protect the Wild. Your contributions are crucial to our goal to help foxes, hares, deer and other animals while they're considered targets of hunting with hounds.
The funds provided by PTW via your donations have a direct impact on how effective our group of volunteers can be and how far we can reach, including: Radios for communication whilst 'in the field', cameras to record and deter, replacement batteries to make sure we have the best chance of gathering footage including for our drone, as well as the MOST essential upkeep of our vehicle. Without transport we have no way of getting between hunters and the hunted.
Your support helps us effectively intervene and increase the chance of escape for these animals as well as show the public what really happens when hunts think there are no consequences.
If you live in south Norfolk or nearby, you can also join South Norfolk Hunt Saboteurs in person. No experience is required and whatever time you're able to commit will be welcomed. A chance to get up close and personal with our countryside, see the impact of direct action with your own eyes, meet like-minded people and most importantly see that hounds really do love sabs more!

South Norfolk Hunt Sabs have absolutely nailed it when they say “a huge thank you for your generous donations to Protect the Wild.” Without our supporters there is no equipment fund and there is no kit to give out. This is very much a joint effort between Protect the Wild and you. We are the conduit, we liaise with the groups, establish what they need, and work with them to get the kit out to them - but it’s YOU that helps us to fund everything.
We will never forget that which is why we regularly thank our own supporters when we write posts like this. And we mean every word when we do. This year alone we have provided groups with over £13,000 worth of funding - that money comes from supporters who have entrusted to us to spend with the due diligence it deserves.
We - us, you, the groups we support - are making a genuine difference, out in the field where it is needed. So, thank you. Every single one of you.
Every time I read articles like this I get a happy glow! Thank heavens for PTW for giving us the opportunity to keep the amazing sabs going. I follow the actions everywhere I can and so wish to be involved with ridding the world of the evil hunts. Knowing there is someone out there doing the defending I cant do, means everything. Thank you to all groups, whatever you call yourselves for being 'me' out there.
Great article, Charlie. Needed to hear some positive and hopeful news today. 🦊🐇🦡
A huge, giant ✨THANK YOU ✨to everyone involved who has made this happen.
Rob and everyone involved with PTW are incredible. 👏👏👏👏👏
And for all the sabs, thank you for your bravery and compassion. 💪🏻🫶 Please take care of yourselves and stay safe.
