It’s the elephant in the room that no other wildlife organisation wants to speak out about, so if they won’t, we will.
Supporting the dairy industry = supporting the badger cull and the mass slaughter of badgers.
It really is that simple.
A fact that I’m sure many of our supporters and the general public will not want to acknowledge but the entire reason for the mass killing of over 1/4 million badgers comes from pressures exerted by the dairy industry.
An industry that demands badgers be slaughtered in the hundreds of thousands because they’re the ideal scapegoat.
Even if the evidence shows that the vast majority of bTB infection in cattle is a result of cow-to-cow infection due to the appalling conditions in which cows are kept.
An iconic British mammal is being wiped out in front of us to protect an industry built upon the exploitation of animals to produce needless products for human consumption.
Badgers shouldn’t be killed to protect the dairy industry. Badgers are intelligent, sentient animals that have lived here for thousands of years. We are already one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, slaughtering these animals to protect an industry that has its own cruelty and animal welfare issues to deal with (let alone problems with lax biosecurity) is unconscionable.
It really is sickening that over 250,000+ badgers have now been shot dead in order to protect the cruel dairy industry that oversees the exploitation of cows so people can consume cheese, milk and other dairy products.
And all the evidence says that it is cattle that is spreading bovine TB to other cattle.
There is a huge amount of scientific evidence and field studies to show that the vast majority of bTB infection in cattle is a result of cow-to-cow infection.
The bacteria that causes the disease spills over into the wider environment as a form of industrial pollution through faeces and slurry soil, water, organisms and infecting both wild and domestic animals.
And our latest animation is designed to get across the message that supporting the dairy industry by consuming products such as milk and cheese is directly supporting the driving force behind the badger cull.
You can watch it below.
ADOPT A BADGER AND SUPPORT US FURTHER
At Protect the Wild we are campaigning against badger persecution and the ongoing badger cull.
We have commissioned a series of powerful animations designed to highlight the cruelty and futility of the badger cull.
Through our Equipment Fund we’re proud to have been providing trail cams and night vision optics to front-line groups taking direct action in the field to protect badgers.
We’re syndicating the blog posts of the Badger Crowd – a team of specialised ecologists and scientists who focus on badgers and the cull.
We created Protectors of the Wild, a free resource that looks in detail at the laws protecting badgers and other animals. Protectors explains what we can do if we see a wildlife crime taking place.
And we are now calling on an incoming Labour government to honour its promise to stop the badger cull. Join us and sign a letter to the Shadow Environment Secretary today!
By adopting a badger with Protect the Wild you will help fund our efforts to protect badgers and help expose wildlife crimes committed against wild badger populations.
As an adopter, not only will you be helping fund vital work, but you will also receive an exclusive Protect the Wild adoption pack including cuddly toy, glossy photo, and an information fact sheet.
I believe the choice of words is wrong 'badgers are being killed to protect the dairy industry'. That is the pretence , but as pointed out in the text, most TB infection is cow to cow. Better would be: ' Badgers are being killed on the PRETENCE of protecting the dairy industry'
Badgers are lovely love the badgers that visit my garden and foxes why can't humans like them they have a right to live their lives too.
